Job Description:
Automation & Controls Engineer - Food Manufacturing
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Automation & Controls Engineer -to
oversee the day-to-day technical services at a food manufacturing
facility specializing in cheese powders. This role will focus on
managing automation, instrumentation, and electrical systems while
ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with safety and
regulatory standards.
This position requires hands-on leadership, as well as the ability
to develop and maintain operational technology infrastructure, lead
capital projects, and provide strategic direction for control
network systems. -
Key Details:
Location: El Dorado Springs, Missouri
Relocation Assistance: May be available
Schedule: Monday - Friday, Day Shift (Occasional troubleshooting as
needed)
Travel: 1-3 times per year for training or collaboration with other
facilities
Direct Reports: 1 Senior Controls Specialist
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and improve facility automation, instrumentation, and
electrical systems.
Develop and manage OT infrastructure, including control networks,
production automation, and related communication systems.
Provide technical expertise to improve dairy process control,
energy management, and operational efficiencies.
Lead capital projects and manage capital budgets while minimizing
plant downtime.
Maintain and upgrade control network/server infrastructure,
ensuring long-term sustainability.
Support and train plant personnel on automation and control
systems.
Manage compliance with food safety, GMP, OSHA, and USDA
regulations.
Promote a strong company culture and oversee both direct employees
and contractors.
Ensure a safe work environment and adherence to all safety
protocols.
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience
requirements:
Option 1: High School Diploma/GED + 10 years of experience in a
food manufacturing environment, including 4 years in a supervisory
role.
Option 2: High School Diploma/GED + 5 years of technical training
in mechanical/electrical studies + 4 years of experience in a food
manufacturing environment, including 2 years in a supervisory
role.
Option 3: Bachelor's degree + 4 years of experience in a food
manufacturing environment, including 2 years in a supervisory
role.
Additional Required Skills:
Experience with capital project planning and budget management.
Strong knowledge of control network design, maintenance, and OT
infrastructure (network, server, security).
Hands-on experience with PLC programming, HMI programming (FT
View), and Rockwell automation systems.
Understanding of electrical schematics, VSD maintenance, and
instrumentation.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements, including FDA, OSHA, and
USDA.
Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
